Just had an appointment with the class in which I T.A. for at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Drawing room. Joan Curran, the professor, requested the various drawings- everything from Blake to Degas to Raymond Pettibon. I had the opportunity to see a Vija Celmins drawing up close and personal. Unbelievable detail. I love an infinite field interrupted with pattern and surface. Meditative in quality, still in presence but almost violent in its implied motion that has been stopped so completely in the drawing.
